Local e-commerce
company, EzerNet Sdn Bhd, which launched
its travel portal on Oct 3, does not see the recent terror attacks in
the United States having any impact on the local tourism industry.
Its president
and chief executive Ezer Ratchaga said the projection is based on the
enquiries received by its travel portal Travel.com.my prior to the official
launch today.
"We don't
see our local tourism industry badly affected (by the attacks on the US),"
he told reporters after the official launch of the portal.
The portal
has received an average of 1,000 page views per day for the past two weeks.
The numbers are expected to rise after the official launch of the site
and following promotional and advertising exercises.
Ratchaga
said the company, which has invested RM100,000 to set up the portal, hopes
to break even by the middle of next year despite the current economic
situation. The portal marries Internet technology advantages with a traditional
brick-and-mortar company, offering first class personal assistant services
system (PASS). The site has been entirely constructed with the traveller
in mind, he said.
"We don't
have any angel investors like the other dot.coms. The portal was fully
financed by EzerNet," he added. Ratchaga also said the company would continue
to bank on the commissions and corporate partnership fees to generate
revenues.
EzerNet has
projected that more than 80 per cent of its sales will come from the PASS
division, rather than from direct online bookings, because the system
will provide all the planning to the customer. -The
